About Our School

At Desert Shadows Elementary School, we provide high-quality, appropriate, and rigorously challenging instruction to students by planning focused lessons using the Arizona State Standards, and prescriptive reading, math, and writing instruction as outlined in the most recent state and federal legislation.
The learning environments are productive and safe for children. Desert Shadows has an award winning school-wide PBIS program in place that remains fair and consistent for all students on campus. We also strive in the educational tool to assists students in building character in the areas of responsibility, fairness, citizenship, caring, trustworthiness and respect.
Our average class size is 25, and we offer special area classes include P.E., Music and Art. Since 2014, our students have participated in Suzuki string lessons: all students in Preschool through 3rd grade participate as part of their weekly curriculum. Students in 4th through 6th grade have the opportunity to audition if they so choose. Our teachers and students also have access to 1:1 technology carts (computers) to use in their classrooms. A before-school chorus program is available to interested students in the 4th through 6th grades. Students are challenged to learn and achieve through large group, small group, and individual instruction. Our teachers cognitively engage students in learning on a daily basis. One-hundred percent of our teachers are highly qualified and appropriately certified, many of whom have a master's degree or higher, and more than half of whom have been part of Desert Shadows for at least five years.
Desert Shadows is more than just an elementary school; we are a community. Through education and activities for all, families are brought together throughout the school year.
